The "Best Workout Songs" List

Two weeks ago was the first time I had been able to workout in six weeks. The whole time I was recovering I just wanted to be able to do something... anything. Now that I was healed all I wanted to do was jump on that treadmill, jam out to my ipod, and see how much time I had lost off of my 2 mile. And then the dreaded symbol appeared... no battery life. UGGGGGGGGGGH! Let me make something clear. I hate running on a treadmill. I hate running outside. I just get so bored. The only way I enjoy running is if I am sprinting down a field towards a goal. If it isn't part of a game, then I want anything to do with it. But since I can't find 24 people for a game of lacrosse or play basketball outside in the dead of winter, I run on a treadmill. So running without music... awful. But, I powered through it. It had been too long, and I was too set on working out. Needless to say my mile time suffered.

So this week when I went to the gym, my ipod was fully charged and ready for a  hardcore workout! I hit start and play at the same time and got moving. The first couple songs were great and I was getting back into my rhythm, and then "Confessions" by Usher came on. *Skip* "King of Wishful Thinking" by Go West *Skip* "Stir it Up" by Bob Marley. What the hell is going on?!?  That was when I realized I was using the playlist I had made for a going away party for my friend Krissy as my workout mix. I had forgotten this detail while being on bed rest and was now realizing that I had been running to "I Only Wanna Be with You" by Hootie and the Blowfish for the past 6 months.

Now, there is nothing wrong with any of these songs. I love them all I mean did you see Usher at the Grammy's singing next to that girl, what's her name... Justine Beiber? Anyways, these are just not songs you workout to. So I decided I needed to come up with a new playlist and why not share it with you and get your feedback and suggestions!

The Running List

Picture
I have two different types of music I need on my workout list. One dedicated to running, the other for lifting. For running I need really upbeat songs. They need to have a good fast-paced beat to them that will keep my feet moving along with it. It also makes the run go by faster when I am picturing dancing to Glee like choreographed moves. So here it is:

  1. Sleepyhead- Passion Pit (The theme song of my life.. I dare you not to be happy when you listen to it)
  2. Forget You- Cee Lo Green
  3. Yeah - Usher
  4. Forever- Chris Brown (I bought this pre-Rihanna incident, so it is grandfathered in...)
  5. Shake It- Metro Station (One of the best songs to run to... ever. If you haven't download it now!)
  6. Fire Burning- Sean Kingston
  7. Teenage Dream- Katy Perry (Another one of my 'anthems'. She is just so catchy!)
  8. Dirty Little Secret - All American Rejects
  9. Electric Feel- MGMT (One of my favorite songs in general. Also the first song I heard Jake play)
  10. Take the Money and Run - Steve Miller Band
  11. Pon de Replay - Rihanna
  12. Black Betty - Ram Jam (Just reminds me of nights at the FIJI house)
  13. Start Me Up - Rolling Stones
  14. Beat that Beat- DJ Pauly D (If it's good enough for the CAPS....)

The Lifting List

Now when it comes to lifting I need a completely different set of music. I enjoy lifting first of all so I don't need fun and happy music to listen to. On the contrary, give me the most hardcore rap you can find and that is what I want to listen to. The Parental Advisory people would have a heart attack if they saw this list but I need that deep base, and something about the way the music makes you feel. When I lift I want to feel like I could punch someone, and that's what this music does!

  1. Get Low- Lil Jon & Ying Yang Twins (Used to listen to this on the way to my games in high school)
  2. Till I Collapse- Eminem and Nate Dog
  3. Shake That- Eminem (Pretty much anything Eminem is lifting music...)
  4. Go Girl- Pitbull (A definite favorite..)
  5. Forever- Drake
  6. Bia Bia- Lil' John and the East Side Boyz (I remember rapping this in my basement in middle school....)
  7. Thunderstruck- AC/DC (Had to throw in some rock music)
  8. X is Gonna Give it to Ya- DMX

What gets you all running and pumped up?
