I have to preface this post because some of my friends out there are going to read this and be like "whaaaaaaat?" This is because I am probably the least likely to write this kind of post. I have always been known as the friend who can be ready to go out in under 30 min if need be. 5 min showers were my specialty in college, and when you lived with 6 girls, that was helpful! I guess I was this way because I had never really taken the time to learn about or experiment with different products to enhance my look. In high school I wore sweatpants or a team warm up to school every day, I wasn't too concerned what my hair looked like, or if my make-up was Ok.
As I have gotten older, I have started to dabble in beauty products and let me tell you I have found it is not an easy road. You buy something because the genius marketing design is soooo good that you are convinced you will look just like the girl on the commercial if you buy their product. So, you head to the store, pick one up, and try it out. What happens? Nine times out of ten, nada. zip, zero. Which is why I have amassed a wonderful collection of products that now sit sadly on my dresser, probably never to be used again and will remain where they are because I don't want to "waste money" by throwing them away.
However, I have also found a few diamonds among the rough. Products that have actually done what they say they will do! It's amazing!!!!! I find it only right that I give credit where credit is due and highlight them here. Maybe it will keep others from buying unnecessary products in search of the perfect one! (Note: Every product is different on each person. For your reference I have fair skin and straight, thin hair. Results may very for those blessed with naturally sunkissed skin and wonderfully full and think hair!)
Hairspray is something that I have always fought with. I don't know about you, but it always seems like it gets clumpy, sticky or weighs my hair down. This hairspray from Fructis is the opposite. It makes my hair feel light and airy, and actually gives it lift which is huge for my thin flat hair! I spray on a bit before I head out the door and it feels great!
Instead of a nightly face-wash regimen, I usually just use a cleansing towelette to get off the dirt, sweat and make up. I have used many different brands and have usually just gone with the one that was cheapest but one day I set out to find these babies and I wasn't disappointed. First off, they are cheap, only about $5 for 30 face wipes. Also, they are super eco-friendly, and you know how I love to hug trees! The actual towelettes are biodegradable which is great, and the container it comes in is recyclable. I would love to try more of the "Yes To.." products but they are kind of pricey. Has anyone else used them?
Like I mentioned before, I have very thin and fine hair, so obviously it gets oily pretty quickly. I have been hearing about dry shampoo for a while and was eager to try it, but couldn't find any in the stores. Until I stumbled across this. I mainly bought it because it was only $5 so I figured if it didn't work, I wouldn't have wasted too much money. I was however pleasantly surprised! I just use a little bit on my roots, let it soak in, brush it out and then put some heat to it with the blow dryer and I am good to go. My hair can get greasy to the point where I can't even put it up, but this spray lets me do that. They also have a foam version for dry/curly hair.
Anything that will make my hair look thicker I will try. I would say that the majority of the products that I have sitting on my dresser were suppose to so just that. This however, works. I started using it when my hairdresser recommended it. It works great, is light and doesn't make my hair greasy or sticky.
Bare Minerals is something that I have sworn by since I was very young. My mom started buying it for me when I was in high school and I have never gone back. Bare Minerals just came out with a new version of their foundation called Matte. It looks like a powder but covers like a cream which I really like. It also has SPF 15 built into it which is a huge plus!
Staple of my life. I looooove this body wash. I'm not a huge scented body wash person so this really works for me. Just has that great soapy smell, but is thick and feels great on the skin!

Any suggestions?
