One of my fellow bloggers, Sara from The Foodie Diaries, also went to Lucerne recently during an amazing tour of Europe! Be on the lookout for pictures from her trip!
On our third day in Switzerland, "Jake and I got up early to go and hike through Hätzingen and into Diesbach". The night before had been so amazing, but I wanted to get some better pictures during the day, so we retraced our steps from the night before.
Lucerne is one of the most famous places to visit in Europe, mainly because of its covered bridges that straddle the Reuss River all over town. It is another city that shares the same name as its Canton.
"Once we got to Lucerne we walked to the famous Kapellbrüke or Chapel Bridge. It was built in the 14th century and has beautiful hanging baskets all along it." It actually partially burned down in 1993, but has since been restored.
"We then walked around a bit, and saw Weinmarkt square; a historic area with painted facades on the buildings. We also saw Spreuerbrücke or Mill Bridge, which is the oldest covered bridge in Europe being built in 1408." Along the top are pictures similar to the ones on Chapel Bridge, except these depict creepy pictures of the plague.
We then walked over to the famous Löwendenkmal or Lion Monument. It was given to the Swiss by the French in 1821 (aren't they really good at giving gifts?) as a thank you and in memory of the Swiss men who died protecting the French palace during the revolution.
We wandered around a bit more, before heading back to the Rathaus for one more beer (of course) before our train came to take us home.
This is what happens. You take delicious vegetables and what ever kind of meat you like...
