You heard me, get out! Now that we are in the real world and sequestered (good word) inside a building all day (most of us), I don't know about you but I am starting to look a little like Nicole Kiddman. No, I don't mean that my face looks like I have stretched saran-wrap across it, but that you could probably see through me right now my skin is so pale.
I'm one of those people who enjoys begin tan, but usually gets my color not from laying poolside, but from just being outdoors when I can. For instance, as I write this I am sitting on my balcony squinting at my computer screen, that becomes mysteriously black when I bring it into the sunlight, begging the sun to turn my legs from casper to a possible eggshell. You see, this week was AMAZING weather in Annapolis and Maryland in general. I actually died a little bit as I would walk into my florescent lit building, and ride the dark elevator to my windowless office.... sigh.
So I was determined to make this weekend count, and made sure I got outside to soak up some of the rays! After a little searching to find a spot that was local we settled on Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary. We had never been there, but had heard good things so we decided to check it out.

Jug Bay is a sanctuary for over 1,600 acres of wetlands in Anne Arundel County on the Patuxent River and home to some amazing critters! I don't think I have ever seen so much wildlife in one trip before. We saw salamanders, frogs, osprey, red winged black birds, blue herons, turtles, and even heard a beaver cut down a tree!
The trails were pretty moderate with some going through the woods, one along an old rain road track that used to run through the sanctuary and then constructed piers that let you walk out into and along the marsh. It also has a boat launch perfect for canoes and kayaks, which I decided may need to be Jake and I's next investment.
In the end, the only cost to us was the gas money (my car is pretty fuel efficient so only about $10 or less) and the entrance fee for the park which was $5 a person. We were surprised by the charge, and only had $5 on us but they let us come in anyway. I would say most parks are free but check before leaving to avoid having to give the puppy dog stare.
Did you get out this weekend??
