This was another amazing day in Switzerland, and probably one of my favorite!! This was the last day before Jake's parents arrived, so we wanted to take advantage of the amazingly beautiful weather and go on a hike. The plan was to be dropped off almost at the end of the valley by the canton of Uri.
Cyrill told us a great story about why the canton of Glarus ended before Klausen Pass and not at it, which would make it a natural boundary. It is said that after arguing over the boarders each canton decided they would pick a person to start running from their respective towns after the first rooster crowed. Wherever they met, would be the new boarder. Glarus was a richer, so they fed their rooster well, thinking it would make him crow earlier. Uro did not have much so their rooster was hungry, and ended up crowing earlier than the one in Glarus. The runner in Uri took off, and by the time the two runners met, the runner from Uri had made it very far into Glarus. The runner from Glarus begged to please have a rematch, and the man from Uri said that he could carry him as far as he could back to Uri, and wherever he dropped him would be the boarder. So the man from Glarus carried the man from Uri as far as he could, until he died. And that is where the boarder is today, or so the legend goes...
However, before we made it to our drop off point, Kerry and Cyrill surprised us by taking us to a hidden waterfall on the way up.
So then it was finally time to start our hike! We were dropped off at a sign that said Braunwald this way...2.5 hours. The hike started off steep, making our way up the side of the mountain until we reached farmland that leveled off into a road. We alternated through forest, and farmland and pastures...
To be continued....
