I really, really liked this movie. Like a lot. It may be one of my new favorite movies of all time. (You know I am serious when I starting making that claim).
The story is about a guy named Lucky (Fred Astaire) who in order to marry his fiance must raise $25,000. So he hops a train to NYC where he meets Penny (Ginger Rogers) (Lucky.. Penny.. :o) ) and they become dance partners trying to make their claim to fame. Along the way, Lucky realizes he is starting to fall for Penny and must make a decision to either distance himself from her or to fall in love.
What I really enjoyed the most about this movie was that it was really funny. Not only funny but all of the their lines just came so naturally and seemed so realistic. Especially when Lucky tries to avoid Ginger as much as possible (shown below). It is also kind of refreshing to watch a movie that depicts a much simpler time than the one we live in now. A time where they couldn't even show an onscreen kiss!
The best way for me to describe it is to show you a few clips. You definitely have to be open-minded to a new genre of movies to watch this, but it isn't that much of a stretch from what we see today. The plot has been duplicated hundreds of times.. two dance partners that shouldn't be involved... lets see Dirty Dancing, Save the Last Dance, Step Up...etc. Take my advice and rent this movie and watch it on a rainy/snowy day with a cup of tea, with a large bowl of super buttery popcorn!!!
