So anyways, A Night at the Opera. Rosa (Kittly Carlisle) and Ricardo (Allan Jones) are two opera singers who are desperately trying to become famous. They also happen to be madly in love. When Rosa is chosen to star in a new opera company in New York, Ricardo uses some stage friends Otis (Groucho Marx), Fiorello (Chico Marx) and Tomasso (Harpo Marx) to help him stow away on her ship. Hilarity ensues as Ricardo and his friends must avoid being caught be the authorities and try to make a name for themselves in New York.
For me, as I have seen with previous comedies on my list, older comedies are so different than what we have today. It is simple slap stick humor that gets you laughing in these movies, nothing over the top. It doesn't have to be crude or scandalous in order to get a laugh, it is just plain funny. A Night at the Opera is one of those movies. Think "The Three Stooges" kind of humor, but not nearly as much people being hit on the head or poked in the eye.
